Bruce L. Burks Jr.

Founder

Bruce L. Burks Jr. is a dedicated educator and community advocate from the close-knit town of Louisville, Alabama, in Barbour County. As the youngest of five children of Pastor Bruce and Marilyn Burks, Bruce’s upbringing was rooted in the values of hard work, community support, and resilience. He is happily married to Dr. Alexis Stokes-Burks and is the proud father to Drew M. Burks.

Bruce’s educational journey began at Louisville Elementary and continued through Barbour County High School, where he graduated in 2003. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Alabama A&M University. To further his commitment to educational leadership, he obtained a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The University of West Alabama.

His career as a K-12 educator has taken him across the globe, including roles in Landover, Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Abu Dhabi, UAE; Beijing, China; and Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. As both a Math Teacher and a Math Instructional Coach, Bruce has gained extensive experience and insights into the educational needs of diverse communities.

In addition to his professional achievements, Bruce is a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, having pledged and been initiated via the Delta Gamma Chapter at Alabama A&M University in the Spring of 2006.

Bruce founded The Burks Foundation with a mission to empower students and families in Barbour County, Alabama, and surrounding areas through educational support and community initiatives. He firmly believes in the old saying that it takes a village to raise a child and sees this principle as vital to the foundation’s efforts. The Burks Foundation envisions a future where every student has access to quality education and every family feels supported.
